Process of Legal Translation
Our process will produce translations that are equal in legal effect to the original articles. Meaning that our translators understand and interpret not only the meaning of the words but the legal effect of the article when translated into the target language.
In most cases a very literal translation is suitable for legal texts, in contrast with a piece of creative translation where the style and presentation are the factors most important. Our legal translation service will produce texts that are clear and unambiguous. We will not offer clarification of vague or unclear points and produce a complete translation of what is presented to us without prejudice or opinion.
When there are perceived multiple meanings of the source text we will present footnotes in the document or additional explanations to describe the exact variations in the meanings that the translation may produce.
To accompany the text we are able to provide the following (on request);
- a certificate of accuracy, signed by a senior member of our company stating the procedure followed to produce the translation
- a witness statement, signed by the translator to say that the translated text is a ‘true and accurate representation of the original’
- property/exhibit labels, to identify our translation in court
- attendance in court, sometimes are translators are requested to attend court to defend their translation

Legal Translation Experience
An example of some of the legal translation projects that K International has been involved in includes.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Daily translation of documentation from and into English. When setting up this service we worked with the various departments within HMRC to build a terminology database and reference material. This was discussed with and issued to every HMRC translator to ensure consistency throughout all Government legal translations. Reference material is continually being updated in-line with new legislations and clauses.
Serious Fraud Office. Translation of investigation papers including banking records, trading papers and legal proceedings. Procured under the terms and conditions of 05/GEN/25 (the pan-Government agreement for translation) this service is supplied to the Serious Fraud Office in many languages including, French, German, Chinese, Spanish and Arabic.
Crown Prosecution Service. The Crown Prosecution Service work with criminal cases within England and Wales. They require translations of confidential documents regarding court cases. Witness statements and history of the case are often required in other languages to ensure that all parties involved in the prosecution are aware of what has been recorded and what will happen next. The stories from each part in the case are translated with notes form the police officers and court officials. We have also translated evidence such as letters and phone records as well as arrest warrants form other countries.
