K International plc.

Accessibility services

In addition to our wide range of translation and interpreting services, we also offer several services designed to make your existing material more accessible, allowing it to reach a much wider audience. Whether your material is printed, audiovisual, or web based - or of course any combination of the above - we can provide you with options which will allow your message to be understood by everyone. Here you can find an overview of these services - if you wish to find out more about a particular service, just click on the heading for a more in-depth description.

Braille

Braille is a system widely used by blind and visually impaired people to read and write. K International can convert any document into Braille, providing you with a communication solution for the blind and visually impaired. Please be aware that the production of charts and graphs is difficult in this format, however we can provide an alternative solution if this is an issue. Signs, books and information leaflets are just a few examples of documents that we can produce in Braille.

Large print

Large Print documents are a quick and cost effective method of presenting information so that it is easier to read by people with poor vision. As the name suggests, larger than usual font sizes are used in the design as well as a simplified layout. Our studio team are experienced in the creation of these documents from existing material, and can ensure that the style and branding of the final product is consistent with your original material.

Audiovisual material

Our in-house audiovisual studio, which handles translation of audio and video material, is also capable of adding accessibility features to this type of content. For example, video content can be made more accessible by adding text captioning, audio descriptions, or sign language content - either in a selectable track (on optical formats such as DVD) or as a separate product (on VHS cassettes). We can also provide these services for web-based video formats.

EasyRead

EasyRead documents are created on a case-by-case basis to allow people with learning difficulties to access existing material. They are written in clear, concise language without jargon or other confusing terminology. Key points are also clearly explained using diagrams and illustrations.

Web accessibility

Web accessibility involves making sure that your site follows certain good-practice processes to ensure that as many people as possible can access the same content. For example, many sites which appear perfectly readable in an ordinary web browser will be completely inaccessible to a blind or partially sighted visitor who uses a screenreader. Similarly, many web users with less severe sight problems use ordinary browsers with their default font size increased - if this is not tested for, it can break the layout of an otherwise attractive site, making the page unreadable. We can offer advice on making your site more accessible - see our web accessibility page for more details.
