Here at K International, we have always tried to tread lightly on the earth.

As a company, we make a point of minimising our environmental impact. All of our waste is recycled, we have low energy light bulbs, we use public transport for the majority of company travel… We follow the best practice guidelines published by the Carbon Trust, for example our environment policy requires that lights in the building are turned off when not in use.

Little things like this are an important step toward a cleaner environment. If everyone around the world were willing and able to pitch in and save energy, it would have a tremendous impact on the health of the planet.

However, no matter how much we tried to reduce our environmental footprint, it never seemed like enough. No matter how much we try to conserve energy, as humans we still use it.

Doing More

Although our business is a very low producer of carbon, we are still responsible for some. When you turn on your computer to check your email, you use electricity, which in most cases is produced from fossil fuels. When you breathe, you exhale carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Simply by living, we as humans are depleting the earth’s resources. We can try to minimise the impact, but there is always going to be an impact.

Instead of simply trying to take less from the earth, we wanted to do more. We wanted to give something back to the world, making it a cleaner place for future generations.

Tree Planting

Giving some thought to the issue we came up with a plan a number of years ago to off-set the carbon that we produce as a result of our everyday and professional lives by planting trees.

In 2002 the opportunity arose to acquire a site to plant trees, we were given the chance we had been waiting for. Finally, we had a way to make a real improvement in the world!

At the end of 2007 K International committed to planting 50,000 trees over the next 5 years.

Our trees will be planted on top of an old coal mine. They will turn a polluted industrial site into a beautiful forest that future generations can enjoy. Even better, for as long as they live, the trees we plant will remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and replace it with oxygen.

Instead of contributing carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, we will actually be taking it out of the atmosphere for generations to come. By participating in this project, our company, our employees and our clients have the chance to be part of something amazing!
