The Congestion Charge in London has led to reduced traffic levels, reduced pollution, shorter journey times and better air quality. All net revenue gained from the exercise is re-invested in improving the public transport system in London, helping the city to become greener and lower emissions still futher.

This project is run by Transport for London (TfL), whose policy has always been to communicate clearly to all residents of London about new developments and updates to the scheme, keeping all stakeholders in the project well informed.

This involves the production of leaflets, booklets, and a strong web presence. We were bought in to handle their conversion into the following formats:

• Translation into a range of languages
• Braille and Large Print versions of printed material
• EasyRead material
• audio books (also in multiple languages)

As we have a long and successful history of working with TfL and their suppliers, we were able to make sure that all their usual conventions were followed accurately - ensuring consistency between the various documents produced, and with previous campaigns.

During this project, our entire translation team was selected exclusively from mother-tongue translators living and working in London. This meant that all of our translators understood the principles being explained in the material, giving them vital context for the translation which might have been difficult to explain otherwise.

Translation - All of the work we do for TfL is translated into thirteen 'core' languages, and some of the material is output in over twenty languages. The core languages include Arabic, Simplified Chinese, and Vietnamese, as well as most European languages.

Braille - We provide a variety of accessible formats, allowing existing material to reach a wider domestic audience. In the case of Braille, we prepare seperate bound documents containing the same content as the existing material.

Large Print - Large print documents are a simple and cost effective way to make existing documents more accessible to partially sighted people. All TfL material is converted to large print format in our studio team, and is carefully created in order to remain consistent with the original documents.

EasyRead - EasyRead documents are written on a case by case basis by our specialist editorial staff. They simplify the existing material by removing any jargon and explaining the key principles in simple, clear language. The text is also accompanied by illustrations and simple diagrams to further aid understanding.

Audio Books - Most of the material we produce for TfL is also made available in audio form. This can be produced in a variety of formats - we usually provide CDs and cassette tapes, as well as mp3s for download from the project's website.
