K International plc. — Translation Services, Interpreting and Multilingual Design

Richard Brooks / General Manager

Richard Brooks

Joining K International in 1993, Richard has worked in all areas of the business.

Originally setting up the system that delivered over 10 million words of translation for the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (UK Government) in 1996. Richard then changed role to develop downstream applications for his Company's services resulting in the establishment of K International's Design & Development Studio.

In 2002, Richard spent time developing the internal processes of the business. Developing the sales, strategy and marketing aspects of the firm to align with current market forces in the localisation industry. He is now in a General Management role within the business allowing him to develop the organisation's strengths and core skills sets.

He completed his MBA at Cranfield University (Class of 2005) and has also studied in the USA and Japan. In Japan he completed an international management exchange program with Kobe University, involving him studying General Management at Toyota, BP and Kobe Steel Works.

Recent successes include the development, roll out and expansion of a Pan Government contract for translation services. This was developed in partnership with the Home Office, DCLG and the Office of Government Commerce to lower the cost of translation services within UK Government and improve the service levels on previous agreements. This has been a resounding success with K International consolidating their own contracts into this agreement (05/GEN/25) and large sections of local and central Government doing the same. Success stories are numerous and one department (National Offender Management Service) managed to save 75% on their translation costs after Richard provided consultation on their own internal procedures, suggesting improvements on their document creation process.

He is also driving forward K International’s quest to plant 50,000 trees in the next 5 years. Which will offset the carbon dioxide produced by his business (by a factor of 10) and convert a dis-used coal mine in the north east of England to a traditional woodland providing numerous environmental, social and even economic benefits to the area.
