Our story begins in New York City...

Meet Picnik. This chubby (but not fat!) cute book has been stored between Paradise in Amazonia and Places around the World since 1991.

As you would have probably guessed, Picnik has lived in the Nature and Life Department for quite a while now, but he never complained as he likes the atmosphere of the old library and all the people that he has met over the years.

Sometimes, he has even the chance to explore new places when kids or adults take him back to their home. It's like adventure for him! However, he never went outside New York City and today, Picnik is a bit sad about it... His dream is to discover the World, travel across the oceans, take the plane and make new friends from different nationalities.

In fact, Picnik has always been fascinated by the only fact that somewhere, there might be other books like him but written in other languages than English. How cool would that be to meet them?

Picnik is bored. Because there is nothing much to do when you are sitting on a shelf all day, Picnik is feeling a bit down and is looking for some excitement in his life.

Shush! Someone is coming his way... It's a small boy, probably aged around 10, blonde hair, green eyes, not too tall or small and he is wearing the uniform from St Helen School, the school around the corner. He seems to be looking for a specific book.

Maybe it's Picnik's lucky day...

Sam is nervous.

It's Sam first presentation in front of his classmates in three weeks time exactly and he is starting to be anxious about it. His Spanish Teacher asked each of them to talk about their favourite subject to the class....not a big deal you would think, but it has to be in Spanish!

Sam is not what we can call the "exemplary school kid" and had never been into learning another language rather than English. But despite his lack of motivation, he is ready to take up the challenge and prove he can do it.

In order to do that, Sam has an idea, a great idea! He is going to translate the book he just took out of the library from English into Spanish. He might not be good at languages but he is passionate about Nature and all the wildlife that lives out there. That's why he picked the perfect book according to him.

Picnik is super excited, he just realises he is gonna travel!

Picnik is in England. Sam found the perfect translation company, they are called K International and are friendly, competent, very quick and creative.

He went onto their website and checked if they had Spanish native speakers ready to translate his book (Sam wants to make sure it's perfect Spanish!). They did because they can translate anything in more than 150 languages and only work with native and qualified translators from around the world, so Spanish wasn't a problem.

The company is based in England, so Sam just sent them Picnik by post with a note where he wrote all of his requirements. A few days later, the K International Team received the parcel.

Picnik meets the team. Because of the size of Picnik (he's chubby not fat!) he needs a team of translators working on him.

To make this happen the lovely project managers at K International make an electronic copy of Picnik, place him onto the workflow system, encrypt him (don't worry it doesn't hurt) and make him ready for translation into Spanish.

They use a team of 8 translators and proofreaders all working at the same time to get the translation done super quick and ready for Sam's presentation. One of them is Olivia in Barcelona...

Olivia is in front of her Mac. Olivia studied English and Translation for 5 years at Barcelona University and she is now a fully qualified Spanish Translator.

She has been working with K International for almost 2 years now and she really enjoys it, people are nice, always punctual and the communication between them is really good. If some problems occur, they solve them together rather than accusing the other for the possible mistakes.

She just received the login details for K International's server to start working on Picnik. The translation process begins.

Picnik is ready to be re-built. All his pages are now in Spanish, they are spell checked, sense checked and in the system.

The computer quickly rebuilds him, makes him look great, makes one final check and tells the project managers who then get him ready for dispatch. Picnik can now go back in New York where he belongs.

Sam and Picnik are reunited. Sam just received his parcel from England and he is so happy about it.

He has got Picnik in his original state and his copy translated into Spanish. Both are what he expected and he is now feeling relieved about his presentation next week.

Picnik is going to be back at the Library soon but he has enjoyed every second of this journey and can't wait to be translated again.
