Welsh Language
Professionals
Using our translation services is really simple. We make sure your documents communicate effortlessly in any language, as naturally and fluently as if you had written it yourself.
Welsh is the native language of Wales. While the majority of the Welsh populace have now adopted English as their first language, pockets concentrated in and around the north of the country retain Welsh as a primary language. Overall around 20% of people living in Wales continue to use the Welsh language regularly.
While Welsh may be considered a minority language, the last two decades have seen measures implemented by the Welsh government to encourage its use. The Welsh Language Act 1993 and the Government of Wales Act 1998 dictate that all public sector information appears in both English and Welsh, ensuring both languages are given equal status.

The Welsh Language
Welsh is thought to have evolved from the Celtic language spoken by the ancient Celtic Britons. The language began to fragment during the Middle Ages due to emerging local dialects which in turn evolved into Welsh, Breton, Cornish and Cumbric.
Our team of Welsh translators are members of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru, the association of Welsh translators and interpreters. Their purpose is to deliver professional-quality translation standards in Welsh/English translation and interpreting, as well as ensuring that the translation industry develops effectively as part of the process of promoting the Welsh language and bilingualism.
While Welsh is most notable within Wales, there are small pockets around the world where it is also used. An example of this can be heard in Patagonia, Argentina. In 1865, 153 Welsh settlers made Patagonia their home after founding the town of Rawson and over the following four decades the colony, called Y Wladfa, expanded all the way to the Andes. This early influence persists with 10% of the modern population speaking a dialect of the language known as Patagonian Welsh.
